What is dowsing?

In practical terms, dowsing is simply the use of the body's innate abilities to discover information about the world about us. Dowsing, or divining, for water is the most commonly known form of this ancient craft but it is possible to dowse for anything hidden, from lost items to health problems.

While many dowsers use tools such as divining rods or pendulums, these in themselves are not what is identifying the hidden object. The dowser is doing that him or herself through their own abilities; the tools merely signal a response.

One of the most common myths about dowsing is that it is a special talent than only a very few 'gifted' people can develop. This could not be further from the truth. We all have the ability, it is just that in today's busy world where our five senses are bombarded with stimuli of every kind, the deeper, quieter abilities become overwhelmed and underused.

Our main aim is to help you realise your own inner dowser!

Be part of a  friendly community

Malvern Dowsers is a group of people from many different walks of life who have a common interest in developing and using their dowsing skills to explore the world. You will be made very welcome at our regular meetings and events, where tea and biscuits are always served.

Learn and develop your dowsing skills

Our meetings are not just theoretical but practical, too. We particularly welcome those who would like to try dowsing for the first time. Dowsing with someone who has done it before means that when using dowsing tools, you have immediate confirmation that you are on the right track.

Meet  people who share their experiences

We meet regularly to share our thoughts and experiences and to hear from some of the UK's most experienced dowsers about their adventures and discoveries. The one thing we all enjoy is the opportunity to share our own experiences and to see how others have revealed their world through a richer perception.

Receive  special member benefits

Annual membership of Malvern Dowsers is £12, which we think is excellent value for money. This entitles you to preferential rates for workshops and meetings, and free admittance to a wide variety of Zoom talks given by knowledgeable and interesting people. You will also be entitled to a free digital dowsing manual.

What others say...

"The dowsing rod is a simple instrument, which shows the reaction of the human nervous system to certain factors that are unknown to us at this time"

Albert Einstein

"For some [dowsing] is just a tool, a bit like using a chainsaw, but for others it is an entry point, a portal if you like, to another way of understanding themselves and the life they see around them. It is is concept, a worldview, an idea."

Nigel Twinn

"Dowsing is just a simple way of talking to the universe."

Munther Ghannam

Learn new dowsing

and energy skills

Throughout the year, we run day-long workshops on subjects related to dowsing and energy-work. In the past, these have included a healing workshop with Adrian Incledon Webber and creating a labyrinth at Hellens Manor in Herefordshire. Keep an eye on the calendar of events to see what's coming next.

Meet interesting speakers

We host a variety of fascinating speakers at our monthly meetings, held in Malvern. Past speakers have included Gordon Field, above, who spoke on his work as a tree guardian, Maria Wheatley who talked about Earth Energies and the Plant Kingdom, and Caroline Sheldrick who introduced us to the world of medical herbalism

Explore and dowse in the outdoors

Nothing beats getting out into the landscape and dowsing on site. Recently we headed to British Camp on the Malvern Hills, and our chair Kate taught the fundamentals of dowsing at National Trust property Hidcote in Gloucestershire. Expect more adventures in the months ahead.
